Teaching

The Society and Religion Research Seminar (Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de Buenos Aires) proposes to address religious phenomena from the perspective of the Social Sciences. The Seminar seeks to investigate the new relationships between society and religion in contemporary times and the relevance of sociological scholarship to explain them, with special attention to the Latin American and Argentine cases. The thematic blocks articulate the analysis of reflections by classic authors who have worked on these topics with more current formulations and theorizations on the subjects, and with articles and case monographs. The seminar provides theoretical elements for the analysis and interpretation of religious phenomena through the reading of fundamental classics in the Sociology of Religion and new theoretical contributions that account for the transformations of the religious field, the new actors that comprise it, and the diverse meanings that these actors give to their practices. It also offers access to methodological tools and technical assistance for the design, implementation and development of field research on the subject.
