The Interdisciplinary Network for the Study of Beliefs and Politics brings together researchers from various disciplines within the Social Sciences and Humanities across universities and scientific institutions in Argentina. Its lines of inquiry focus on the study of political processes and social beliefs, highlighting five thematic areas: Activism and social movements, Public policies, Religious and spiritual practices, Care relations, and the sustainability of life. The Network aims to foster collaboration among its members in order to strengthen scientific research projects, knowledge dissemination, and transfer across different fields.
Carla Zibecchi
BA and Teaching Degree in Sociology, Master’s in Social Policies, and PhD in Social Sciences from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). Associate Professor in the Sociology Teacher Training Program (FSoc-UBA), where she conducts teaching and research activities focused on the didactics of sociology. Independent Researcher at CONICET based at UNTREF. Her research focuses on gender studies, public policies, the sociology of care, and their teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in national and private universities.
Luis Miguel Donatello
PhD in Social Sciences and PhD in Sociology (EHESS). Principal Researcher at CONICET and Professor in the Sociology Program at the Faculty of Social Sciences (UBA) and at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Universidad Nacional del Litoral (where he served as Director between 2013 and 2017). His current research examines the links between religion and economic and political elites in Argentina over the past 30 years. He also studies the conceptual pair nationalism/globalization from the 20th century to the present, with an emphasis on trajectories and transnational networks. Additionally, both in teaching and research, he develops theoretical reflections based on qualitative methodologies focused on biographies, trajectories, and social networks.
Verónica Giménez Béliveau
BA in Sociology, Master’s (DEA) in Sociology, and PhD in Sociology (Universidad de Buenos Aires / École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, co-supervised thesis, 2004). Associate Professor in the Sociology Program (Seminar on Society and Religion, FSoc-UBA). Principal Researcher at CONICET in the Society, Culture, and Religion Program at CEIL, which she coordinated (2017–2024). Her research focuses on socio-religious dynamics in Latin America, the formation and circulation of beliefs and representations related to health, the body, and their projection into politics.
Florencia Calvo
BA and PhD in Literature from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (UBA). Associate Professor of Spanish Literature II (Department of Letters, FFyL-UBA). Independent Researcher at CONICET. Director of Research Projects (UBACyT, PIP) since 2006. Lecturer in the Master’s Program in Spanish and Latin American Literatures (FFyL-UBA). Her research focuses on Baroque poetry and the construction of authorship in the 17th century. In recent years, she has worked on women’s memory and the construction of martyrdom.
Guido Ignacio Giorgi
PhD in Social Sciences (UBA/EHESS), BA in Sociology (UBA). Adjunct Professor with exclusive dedication in Argentine Social History (Sociology Program, UBA). Assistant Researcher at the Center for Labor Studies and Research (CEIL-CONICET). His research focuses on the political sociology of the state and Argentine political elites. He is currently working on the presidency of Eduardo Duhalde (2002–2003).
Marina Larrondo
Associate Researcher at CONICET at the Institute of Economic and Social Development (UNTREF). Sociologist (UBA), Master’s in Education (Universidad de San Andrés), and PhD in Social Sciences (Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento). Her research focuses on youth and activism, and politics in secondary education. She teaches in the Sociology Teacher Training Program at UBA and works on curriculum and teaching in secondary schools. She is a member of the Human Rights and Citizenship Research Program at IDES and the Youth and Policy Studies Group at the Gino Germani Institute (UBA). She writes non-fiction and engages in public dissemination on society, science, and lived experiences, including the book La suerte de tu lado (“Luck is on your side” by El gato y la caja, 2024).
Ana Inés Mallimaci Barral
BA in Sociology, Master’s in Social Research Methodology (UNTREF/University of Bologna), and PhD in Social Sciences (UBA/EHESS, co-supervised). Associate Professor at ICSyA, Universidad Nacional Arturo Jauretche. Independent Researcher at CONICET based at CEIL. Her research focuses on migration studies from a gender perspective, including migrants’ labor and care trajectories, as well as teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in national and private universities.
Sol Prieto
PhD in Social Sciences (UBA), MA in Political Science (UTDT), BA in Sociology (UBA). Researcher at CONICET and Professor at Universidad de San Andrés and UBA. Former Adjunct Associate Research Scholar at Columbia University and Visiting Scholar at UC Santa Barbara. She also served as National Director of Economy, Equality and Gender at Argentina’s Ministry of Economy, advisor to Argentina’s Mission to the United Nations, and consultant for international organizations.
María Bargo
BA and PhD in Social Anthropology from the Interdisciplinary School of Advanced Social Studies at UNSAM. Former postdoctoral fellow at CONICET and UNAM (Mexico). Substitute Associate Professor at CNBA, Teaching Assistant at UNA, and Senior Teaching Auxiliary at UNSAM. Currently she is a SIJA Associate researcher at the Institute of Social Research (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). Her research interest focuses on public interventions of Catholic sectors in Latin America and the formation of traditionalist identities, drawing on the Anthropology of Religion, Morality, and Politics.

MA in Educational Administration and Public Policies (UNTREF). PhD candidate in Higher Education Policy and Management (UNTREF). Her career combines academic training in education and technology with university teaching experience.

Julieta Campana
PhD candidate in Social Sciences (UBA), MA in Public Policies for Development with Social Inclusion (FLACSO), BA in Business Administration (UBA). Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Universidad de Buenos Aires (FCE-UBA), teaching the Seminar on Economic Power and Human Rights, and lecturer at the postgraduate level at UNTREF and FLACSO. She is a CONICET doctoral fellow based at UNTREF and a member of the Research and Development Group in Interdisciplinary Studies on State and Politics. Her main research interests are care work, the informal economy, and public policy.
Mercedes Nachón Ramírez
BA in Sociology and PhD candidate in Social Sciences at UBA. Former CONICET doctoral fellow. Member of the Society, Culture, and Religion Program (CEIL-CONICET). She teaches in the Sociology Department at the Faculty of Social Sciences (UBA). Her areas of interest include the sociology of culture and religion, with a focus on contemporary spiritualities, professionalization processes, and the shaping of alternative lifestyles. Her doctoral research explores variations of urban shamanism in Buenos Aires and Rosario, in relation to health, spirituality, and art.
Matías Hoffman
PhD candidate in Social Sciences, MA in Social Policies, BA in Sociology (UBA). CONICET doctoral fellow based at UNTREF. Teaching auxiliary in the Mallimaci Chair of “Argentine Social History”. His research focuses on public policy and bureaucratic agency: observing, through social policies aimed at young people, how street-level bureaucrats engage in dialogue and reshape state intervention.
Clara Inés Otermin Browne
She holds a degree in Sociology, a Master’s degree in Political and Social Theory, and is a doctoral candidate in Social Sciences at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). She teaches Argentine Social History at the same institution. She is a fellow in the Society, Culture, and Religion Program at CEIL-CONICET, where she is conducting her doctoral research on the links between beliefs and economics. Her research focuses on financial education from the perspective of the sociology of religion and beliefs.
Catalina Monjeau Castro
Sociologist from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, she is currently pursuing a PhD in Social Sciences at the same university. She teaches in the Behavioral Sciences program at the University of San Andrés and in the Medical program at the National University of José C. Paz. She is part of the Society, Culture, and Religion Program at CEIL-CONICET. She specializes in qualitative methodologies, and her research focuses on health, beliefs, and care. She has collaborated on national and international audiovisual projects.
Candela Villalonga Zalazar
She holds a degree in Political Science from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). She studied the Master’s degree in Global Studies (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg / FLACSO). She is currently a UBACyT doctoral fellow in the PhD program in Social Sciences (UBA) and a member of the PIDAES research group (FSOC-UBA), where she investigates affect and the thematic focus of “mascotism.” Her research interests center on gender studies, political sensibilities, and the affective networks that permeate social life.

Holds a degree in Sociology (Universidad de Buenos Aires). Secondary school teacher and teaching assistant in the subject of “Legal Sociology” in the Law program at the Metropolitan Universidad de Buenos Aires (UMET). Member of the PDE 18/2021, “Representations, associative fabric and public policy networks: religious factor and care policies”.
Santiago Luis Iturralde
Advanced student of sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). She is part of the research team for the UBACyT project, “Money, Vocation, and Freedom: The Case of Platform Workers,” directed by Dr. Esteban Vernik (20020190100271BA). She is a reviewer of Argentine social history for the Mallimaci Chair. She participated in an exchange program at the University of Rosario as part of the UBAINT scholarships. She works professionally as a history teacher at the “Puños de Libertad” (Fists of Freedom) community high school. Her research interests include urban exclusion, public policy, and the impact of digital platforms on subjectivity and work.
